Well, I passed on the first Hendrix fig, but this one was just too iconic to pass up. Got him for $15.95 CDN at the local comic shop.
Sculpt
The sculpt on this is great all around. If you were happy with the first Henrix, you'll be happy with this one, maybe even happier. The pose is perfect and reflects the famous picture beautifully. I don't have the original pic for reference, but even if it's not perfect, you'd need to be a Hendrix fanboy to notice or care about any discrepencies.
The facial expression is just great. It captures the passion of Hendrix, and it even looks like he's whacked up on goofballs. One particular thing I want to mention is his hair. The tiny detail of his hair is astonishing. I can't believe the final production piece retained so much fine texture. The same goes for his clothing.
I will consider his stage base part of the figure, as the metal pegs on Hendrix don't allow him to be placed anywhere else. The stage itself is great, but I want to point out the bottle of lighter fluid and book of matches sculpted onto the base. Small details like this are what make a McF figure a McF figure.
[/u]Paint[/u]
The paint serves it's purpose. It recreates the picture, and doesn't require any fancy techniques, so there's not really anything huge to mention. The small details such as the chains around his neck, his rings, and the book of matches on the ground are painted perfectly as far as I can tell, with no bleeding or slop.
His face is also painted very well, with a subtle gloss to it, which emulates sweaty, oily skin. His eyes and facial hair are also painted perfectly.
Accessories
The things I would consider accessories for this figure are his guitar (even though he'd look stupid without it), patch cord, and amplifiers. These are all done well except for the patch cord. Like the first Hendrix figure, it isn't nicely coiled like the prototype, but is straight, but folded to fit under the base. This means that when you attach it to the guitar and amp, it just sticks out every which way. Unless you do some serious molding, it will probably look stupid. For this reason, I haven't included it with my setup. I also believe it goes into the guitar at the wrong angle. I think it's supposed to go in on an angle, but instead it goes in straight.
Also, you'll probably have to put some weight on the guitar strap for a little while to reshape it so it doesn't defy gravity.
Engineering
The figure, base, and guitar go together no problem. The amps also go in easily, but I have a couple comments on them. I don't know if it was a design choice or a factory error, but the amps do not attach flush like the prototype. Instead, the pegs align them slightly crooked. As I mentioned though, this could have been a design choice. I don't know. However, the top amp tends to lean slightly forward, unless you really get the pegs in all the way, which you probably want to be careful doing. All in all though, these aren't major issues.
The one major issue is the patch cord I already talked about. Unless you do some major reshaping, you'll probably want to throw this in a drawer.

Nice review as always Hoffman, but I must say the face looks way off, and the whole set looks a bit too toyish....

if there's a Hendrix 3, I'd love it to be in an outrageous guitar playing pose

That's a good idea for a 3rd, Sculp. (And with four Elvises hopefully we'll get more Hendrix)
I agree about the fire, but it's a small complaint compared to the rest of the fig of course.
Slappy- Toyish? You mean because of the bright colors?

Great review PH! Overall, I do love this figure, but seeing the pic that Captain Spaz put up, I now see where the face could have been reworked a tad.
Still extremely happy to own it though!!
